'All Options Are Open': Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir Issues Fresh Warning Over Indus Waters Treaty (X@FrontalForce)
Islamabad: Tension between India and Pakistan regarding the Indus Water Treaty seems to be increasing once again. Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has said that the army is ready to take all necessary steps to protect the country's share of water. In a statement issued after the 276th Corps Commanders Conference held at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, it was said that Pakistan will not make any compromise on its water rights.
The army also reiterated that security of the country's resources and national interests is its top priority. This statement has come at a time when India's decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty after the Pahalgam terrorist attack has become a major cause of dispute between the two countries.
At the Corps Commanders Conference, the army clearly indicated that Pakistan considers water rights related to the Indus River system as part of its national security. The military leadership says that the country's agriculture, drinking water system and livelihood of crores of people depend on this water system. In such a situation, if there is any kind of obstruction in the flow of water, its impact will not only be limited to the economy, but national interests will also be affected. For this reason, the army has said that it will work with the government on every possible option.
Pakistan's military and political leadership has already said that if the flow of water from its share is stopped or diverted, it will be considered not just a water dispute but a matter related to national security and survival. In the recent meeting also, the Army reiterated the same stand and indicated that Pakistan may adopt a more aggressive strategy in the future regarding water security. However, there has been no immediate official response to this latest statement from India.

The issue of increasing terrorist attacks inside Pakistan also figured prominently in the Corps Commanders Conference. The army claimed that many terrorist organisations, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are using the soil of Afghanistan. Along with this, Pakistan, without presenting any public evidence, alleged that these organisations have the support of India. Pakistan demanded the Afghan interim government not allow its land to be used for anti-Pakistan activities.
The Pakistani Army made it clear that its action against terrorism will continue. According to the military statement, under 'Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq', operations will continue to be conducted on the basis of intelligence information and the security system within the country will be strengthened. The army claimed that Pakistan has every right to ensure the safety of its citizens and there will be no relaxation in action against terrorism. The military leadership at the conference also stressed maintaining vigil on the borders and strengthening operational preparedness and strategies to deal with conventional and hybrid threats.
